Last week, I visited South Korea on behalf of several customers.
During this visit, I conducted a supplier quality audit at one supplier and visited several potential new suppliers for my customers. I assessed the possibilities from a quality perspective and the required certifications.
The audited supplier provides various machined products, including forged and plate-welded products, for the oil, gas, and energy markets. They supply flanges, tube-sheets, rings, nozzles, headers, and baffles in diverse metallic materials, available in large or small sizes, and varying thicknesses. They also perform qualified welding. Throughout the two-day audit, I gained a good impression of the supplier’s quality systems and the high quality of their products. It was a successful audit with good results.
I also visited a forging company and a manufacturer of welded tubes. Both organizations were well organized, and I was impressed by the range of products they can deliver and their large size. It was a wonderful experience to witness the forging and heat treatment processes, as well as the production of welded tubes, with all their knowledge and expertise. It was fascinating to observe the force and heat involved in these processes.
Fortunately, there was also time for relaxation, and we visited several beautiful places in the city of Busan. We explored the Haedong Yonggungsa temple, the Jagalchi fish market, Haeundae and Gwangali beach, and a large shopping center. We were amazed by the beautiful culture and the hospitality of the local people. Additionally, we enjoyed the delicious Korean cuisine, including seafood and Korean BBQ. To maintain some balance, we also engaged in some sports activities during the week.
In summary, it was a successful visit that I look back on with satisfaction.
